Landing & Phase Scoring
FlightPack grades every flight across multiple dimensions so you can track your improvement over time. Scoring is automatic — just fly and review your results after landing.
Landing Score
Your touchdown is evaluated on several factors:
- Sink Rate: Vertical speed at touchdown (lower is better)
- Centerline: How close to the runway centerline you touched down
- Speed: Approach speed relative to the recommended Vref for your aircraft
- Smoothness: G-force at impact — a smooth flare means a better score
Phase Scoring
Beyond the landing, FlightPack evaluates each phase of your flight independently:
- Taxi: Speed control and brake usage on the ground
- Takeoff: Rotation speed, pitch, and initial climb
- Climb: Speed management and altitude targets
- Cruise: Altitude holds, speed consistency
- Descent: Rate of descent and speed control
- Approach: Glideslope tracking, speed, and configuration
- Landing: Touchdown quality as described above

Score Grades
Each phase receives a letter grade from A+ (excellent) to F (needs significant improvement). The grading scale:
| Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|
| A+ | Outstanding |
| A / A- | Excellent |
| B+ / B / B- | Good |
| C+ / C / C- | Average |
| D+ / D / D- | Below Average |
| F | Needs Improvement |
Aircraft Type Profiles
Scoring thresholds adapt to your aircraft. FlightPack uses three profiles:
- Light Jet: Tighter tolerances for smaller, more responsive aircraft
- Narrow Body: Standard airline tolerances (A320, 737 class)
- Wide Body / Heavy: More forgiving thresholds for larger aircraft with higher inertia
The profile is selected automatically based on the aircraft you are flying.
